They can't hang with New day mic wise o character wise.

Exactly, and that's why the crowd was into him. Simple yet very effective. He had charisma, it just wasn't Jericho type charisma. What you're describing is Roderick Strong from a couple years ago, who was an amazing wrestler with no other ounce of appeal.
