9 Scientific Ways To Be Hotter
Beauty doesn't just come down to simple genetics. There are actually scientific factors behind the lesser known ways to make yourself more attractive.

Keep Your Chin Up
Guys who keep their chin up come off psychologically as more assertive and confident. It's also a more appealing position for the face, because it helps define the jawline and create a slimming effect for the neck region, which helps to avoid the dreaded double chin.

Keep Your Eyes Open
No matter how droopy-eyed you may be feeling, keep your eyes wide open as much as possible. This gives you an alert and attractive look. Of course, do this to the extreme and you may look more like a crazed serial killer instead, so you need to find a happy medium between the two.

Smile (Or Don't!)
Studies from the University of British Columbia found that if you're a woman, you should smile more; if you're a man, you should smile less. Men were found to believe that happiness is the most attractive feature of a woman, so seeing her smile automatically made her more appealing. The opposite was true when the genders were reversed, though. In the study, women ranked brooding, non-smiling men higher on the scale of whether they'd make a good boyfriend or husband.

Wear Red
Red is most definitely not a neutral color, and it symbolizes passion and romance as much as any color can. By wearing it, you're automatically becoming a symbol for sexual power. You'll automatically draw attention to yourself because it's such a standout color, and people will subconsciously be drawn to you.

Adrenaline
When you're on a date, do something that gets your adrenaline flowing, whether it's something active or daring or something like watching a scary movie. Adrenaline works as a natural aphrodisiac, and it may even help calm your nerves in a weird sort of way (you won't be focused on whether you're likable or not if your attention is elsewhere). Your date will also get to see the real you.

Androgyny
Scientifically speaking, those who have an androgynous look or voice prove more attractive, because this indicates a good blend of both masculine and feminine qualities. So men, don't be afraid to wear pink or show your sensitive side; women, go ahead and rock the short haircut you've been debating for the longest time. As a bonus, you'll appear more confident when you aren't trying to fit the masculine or feminine molds.

Don't Overdo the Scents
Yes, you want to smell good to feel attractive, but you don't want to smell like a junior high locker room, either. You also shouldn't forget the beauty of your natural scent as well. Natural pheromones have a huge effect on hormones that artificial scents just can't recreate. There's also the fact that some people are more sensitive to scent than others, so you don't want to drive away a potential date because your perfume gives them an asthma attack.

White Teeth
There's no question that a great smile is one of the keys to attractiveness. In fact, it's one of the first things people notice about each other and, in some cases, can be a major turnoff even when all the other elements of attraction are there. When you do choose that perfect moment to flash your smile, the key to wowing with it is to have a nice set of pearly white teeth. Take good care of your teeth and keep them in top flashing condition.

Eat Fruits and Vegetables
It's been drilled into our heads since we were toddlers, but eating fruits and vegetables really does add to your attractiveness. They will keep you healthy by helping to maintain a good weight and they provide tons of vitamins and nutrients to improve your hair and skin and give you a glow that everyone will envy.

Red Lips Are Key
Red lipstick is an attention-grabbing technique women have used for generations, and it's scientifically proven to work. A study from Manchester University demonstrated that men stare at a woman's lips for seven seconds when she's wearing red lipstick, whereas they spent less than a second looking at her hair and eyes.

Ditch the Beard
While some women may prefer a bearded man, the majority do not according to the "Oxford Journal." In the study, most women didn't feel that men with beards were more attractive, even though they did think they had a higher social status.

Stick With a Group
People are more likely to be perceived as attractive when they're part of a group, which is commonly known as the "cheerleader effect." Humans tend to process faces in groups, meaning we form an "average" of all the faces we see. So if you're surrounded by attractive people, you will look more attractive yourself. This method shouldn't be used long-term, because obviously you're going to want to have some alone time with potential dates. But if you're wanting to take a great picture or impress some people you'll never see again, groups are the way to go.

Make Yourself Look V-Shaped
While many men prefer the hourglass shape for women, women love a v-shaped man with a chest and shoulders wider than the waist and hips. A lot of this is up to genetics, and many men will never be able to achieve a v-shaped body even with training and exercise. If that's you, don't worry. You can fake it by wearing v-shaped clothing instead such as blazers and v-necked T-shirts.

Get a Dog
Four independent studies researched whether or not men with dogs were more likely to attract others than men who didn't have dogs. The participants asked for money, dropped money "accidentally," or asked for phone numbers both with and without dogs. The results were most significant for men asking for women's phone numbers: men with dogs were three times more likely to get a number than men who were dog-less.

Men Love Fertile Ladies
A study published in the journal "Hormones and Behavior" actually found that when a woman is ovulating, she becomes more attractive to men. Over the course of her cycle, a woman's voice and face changes due to the different hormone levels. In the study, 500 men and 500 women were asked to look at over 200 pictures of women's faces and listen to recordings of their voices. The pictures and recordings were gathered at different times of the month--both during and not during ovulation. Both groups of men and women found the women in the fertile phase of their cycle to be more attractive.

Average Can Be Better
A study done by a professor at the University of Nebraska measured people's faces according to how symmetrical they are--more symmetry being better. She also measured other aspects like how thick a person's lips are, with a perfect score being right in the middle--not too thin but not too pouty, either. The features that are most symmetrical or "average" get the best scores.

Wear Some Shades
Vanessa Brown, lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, created a study based on her curiosity about why people wearing sunglasses appear more attractive and found that it is a mixture of reasons. First, it creates an aura of mystery. The eyes are the windows to the soul, and there's something oddly attractive about them being hidden from us. Second, they add more symmetry to your face. This is also a big point for men who may have baby faces, because the lines of the shades can give men a more "manly" and stronger-looking appearance. Third, we tend to associate them as being glamourous. Hollywood stars are often seen with their shades on--whether because it's sunny outside or because they want a disguise from the paparazzi. And who doesn't want to look like a celebrity?

Collar Stays
Many men do not even know what a collar stay is, but they greatly increase your level of professionalism and your level of attractiveness to women. These help to keep your shirt collars in place so that they do not droop. Collar stays polish your look and ensure your collars fit properly around your neck.

The wear red tidbit is true. The beard tidbit is halfway true.
In the various studies (albeit you have to factor in location) it's nearly unanimous that most women prefer facial hair, given it is dense and full.
It's a secondary sexual characteristic.
Most young women don't prefer full beards. Heavy stubble ( 3/5 mm or 7 - 12 days of growth) was deemed the most attractive.
A beard signals aggression and masculinity. The perfect blend for young women tends to be the in between stage.
Older women almost always responded better to full beards.
Either way, it's not a one glove fits all type of ordeal and all women like different things, but I've never heard of a woman remarking how turned on she was by a man being shaved clean.
