90s kids what was it like transitioning from 2-d to 3-d games?

Tell you the truth, I probably wasn't wow'd by N64 games because I really didn't start buying games until the late PS1/early PS2/Dreamcast era and just rented everything before that

Them cartridge prices were too damn high :damn:

Nah got my Super Nin Xmas 94 had to deal with my Super Nin and Sega Genesis until 97 :francis:

You had some cool as parents and uncles!:pachaha:

If you was my nephew back then I would've been like "booooooy if you don't get yo hands off my console" prolly Rock Bottomed you!:skip:

If i was an adult back then with a 4 year old brat asking for a Super NIN, I would've been like "boy if you don't go somewhere and sit yo 4 yr old ass down, play with the Legos I bought you and watch some Rugrats!"

Nah on some serious shyt, Mario 64, Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast, and Zelda were  experiences.

Those games changed my cognitive structure of my brain. Like, on some revolutionary type shyt that I dreamt of day and night.

A lot of 3d was ugly. It finally took the ps3 generation to where I felt 3d could wow me like some of the 2d games did. I'm talking full 3d here, not games with 3d models on top of prerendered backgrounds.
Yup actually ps2 for me and Dreamcast. But due to console limitations I was PC gaming hard back then. I always prefferes an I'll 2D to 3D game initially. I remember just dreaming of what a 3D GTA would be like while playing the old games from top view. Once that became possible it was a dream come true.

Ps1 had 3d with tekken and virtua fighter resident evil and so did the arcade but you didn't really feel it until you laid eyes on mario 64 which really was a jaw dropping experience like no other you really felt wide open with space where in a game like resident evil or virtua fighter you felt confined...the type of movwment seen in Mario 64 was groundbreaking until gta3 ushered in the sandbox game movement

The unknown
It happened twice for me....and I doubt it will ever happen again

Moment #1 - I was born in 87....Had the NES and SNES growing up. When I got the 64 for Christmas in 1997 though...I will never forget Diddy Kong Racing and how it had a full 3d world I could freely drive around in...then Mario and the Wrestling games...just :wow:

Moment #2 - Ill never forget going into Toys R Us and walking up to the game demo station thinking "why these dudes watching an NFL game...where are the video game demos?"

They were playing Madden 2001 :mjlol:
