ive read that a lot of black WWII soldiers were treated better in europe than they were back home, and it was a big part of why the civil rights campaign really got so much bigger between the 40s and the 60s. i can only imagine the rage of going to another country, fighting for your life, and coming back home and being treated like a second class citizen.
i wonder how the civil rights era would've gone without the second world war. probably a lot more slowly.
