Why does Jamie Raskin wear that cap? Rep explains bandana comments

Kentucky Republican James Comer offered his Democratic colleague Jamie Raskin some words of support during his cancer battle on Wednesday – the latter was wearing a bandana at the time, and has been seen wearing a cap in the midst of his treatments.
ABC News
called it a “moment of bipartisanship.”
“We know that you’re gonna win this battle,” Comer said. “You’re in our thoughts and prayers, and it’s good to see you here today.”
Raskin said the comments meant a lot to him.

Why has Jamie Raskin been wearing a bandana, hat or cap during public appearances?
On December 28, 2022, Jamie Raskin publicly announced that he is
suffering from diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, a type of cancer.
However, he said he’d been undergoing several days of testing before his diagnosis. Spanish-language newspaper El País wrote last week that he had
actually received his diagnosis as early as December 19. The paper was due to interview him later in December, but had to reschedule.
At the time, Raskin said he planned to work through it. He has since undergone two of six rounds of chemotherapy.
ABC News quotes him as saying jokingly, at the time of his diagnosis announcement, that the chemo-immunotherapy would cause hair loss and weight gain, but that he was “still holding out hope for the kind [of cancer] that causes hair gain and weight loss.”
Jamie Raskin credits Steven Van Zandt aka ‘Little Steven’ for his bandana look
“I give all honor to Little Steven for creating this look for American men going through something,” Raskin
told HuffPost in January.
He had been sporting a black-and-white bandana in order to cover up the “apparent hair loss,” the outlet adds.
Raskin also said he is “hanging tough.”
“I’ve been through two of six rounds. And the doctors are optimistic, and I’m feeling strong. And my colleagues have been uniformly supportive, Democrats and Republicans – and you know, that means a lot to me.”

Have Republicans asked Raskin to remove his cap or headgear while on the floor of the House?
No. This appears to be a misunderstanding. Raskin received a standing ovation in the Democratic Caucus after saying,
according to Punchbowl News editor Heather Caygle, that he would “push back on Republican efforts to make him take off the cap.”
“And I will make them take off their toupees,” he reportedly said. The joke being that, if his headgear breaks rules regarding what Members of the House can wear on their heads, wigs should too.
A
tweet repeating this has since picked up nearly 50K likes. However, Raskin assured Raw Story that
he was “kidding around” with that comment. It was a joke; House speaker Kevin McCarthy had heard nothing of it either.
Jamie Raskin has worn either a cap, hat or bandana on multiple occasions now while working in his capacity as a congressman, apparently without issue.
