I gave this album a couple of spins. This is A Boogie's 8th major release. Out of the 2017 XXL freshman class A boogie, XXX, and Carti were the only ones I rock with and thought had potential. Here we are all these years later....
The 2 songs I posted and Man in the mirror are the standout tracks. I didn't post man in the mirror since that song been out. When the kid gets in his pocket his flows are dope. He can spit some shyt. I like the production on those tracks. They're current, got a bop that fits him.
This album was marketed as a conceptual album. "Me vs Myself." I have yet to identify where the concept is executed. The album art and visual content is disney/video game based. Unsure of the meaning.
This album has most of the flaws of his latest releases. The beat selection on here is probably his worst yet. They don't compliment him at all. None of the sounds could fit on any playlist or set nicely. The beats are really bare bones. They all feel like a drop never happens or are incomplete. A boogie also struggles on a lot of these, his flow gets all over the place as a result and sounds lost. He tries to make up for it with tone/delivery/flow changes but it just doesn't compensate.
The sequencing is also pretty awkward. For a conceptual album the sounds are on the opposite ends of the spectrums. Its hard to build a vibe at all because of this.
Long story short; this shyt got no adobe, Sazon, salt, NADA; and has u asking for some hot sauce to pour on it. It feels incomplete on a lot of levels. A boogie not letting ANY feature go first doesn't help his cause either. He got heavy hitters on it but you gotta come with that shyt if you're making me wait....
I honestly don't know what the goal was conceptually or sonically. I don't know when I would listen to this type of sound minus the 3 songs I stated. It feels like music to PAWG 2 or you'd hear at urban outfitters. For your 8th release to be regressing this bad is a disappointment.
