Vaccinations did such a good job, people are completely complacent about the awful diseases we don't have to worry about anymore. Or didn't have to worry about until recently.

Good thing anti-vaxxers weren't around en masse before smallpox was eliminated

They were. But then as theses diseases were being eradicated, they had no choice but to change their position. It's going to happen when we hit our "no going back" zone for climate control.

It's a common theme of human history.
