So as many of ya'll know, DJ Premier was supposed to be on The Back Album, but 9th Wonder got his spot after he no showed a session.

Part of the inspiration for Threat was Unbelievable. Jay was impressed that Preem and Big took an R. Kelly sample and made it sound gritty. So the R, Kelly sample for Threat was Jay's idea, and Jay is actually credited as a co-producer on the song, because he gave 9th the sample to use.

Dope story. never knew Preem missed out. I remember reading an interview with 9th where he said that Jay just handed him the cd on the spot and 9th made the beat on his laptop right then.

Dre and Swizz weren’t on the album either though?
Nope. Neither was Ski.

Yeah the idea of 12 beats and 12 producers got scrapped. The ad came out before the album even started recording.

Because I remember when 9th Wonder came back down here and Jay had played him what we recorded prior to Threats, and it was already Lucifer, Encore, What More Can I Say, December 4th, Moment of Clarity, and maybe another one. Ignorant shyt maybe? They cut that off for Justify My Thug
:francis:

Just checked Wikipedia. 14 tracks.

3 Just Blaze
2 Kanye West
2 Neptunes
1 9th Wonder
1 DJ Quik
1 Timbaland
1 Eminem
1 Rick Rubin
1 Aqua
1 Buchanans

P.S.A. almost didn't make it and was recorded the day the album was supposed to be mastered.

Jay mystique is not like anything ever in hip hop. The stories about how he record records are legendary.
