First things first,,,do you believe in the Bible? If you don't believe the precepts in it...you won't believe the answers to your questions. Ask a Christian and expect the same dogma you heard as a child....ask an Israelite that believes on the Most High and his Son ans maybe your mind will be opened up to some understanding.

question: How should I go about believing "in the bible"? Normally, I need to see and understand things based on other things I believe in order to believe new things; for example, I believe gravity attracts matter to itself and based in this I believe other stuff about the behavior of matter. What do I need believe in order to believe in the bible?

I'll field this one. I'm not a theist by any means but Faith is usually the glue that holds this whole construct together. Not saying that's right or wrong but without that, it won't work.

Well that seems arbitrary. If I just barely missed the cutoff, I wouldnt be too happy about it.

Is there an appeal system in place?

Nope. If you make the first 4 killings then everyone will come to Jerusalem. Jesus will sit on his throne. He will have the rest of the living slept to two sides. One on his right side and one on the left

Left will be put to death or slavery

I don't understand this answer, let me restate my question for clarification: How should I go about believing "in the bible"?
are you saying, Faith is how I go about believing in the bible? what would that entail?

Well, faith is belief that is not based on proof so that's exactly what I'm saying. You open the bible with the mindset that everything is true, period.
