Durant ain't the man in Golden State. Draymond is the leader. Steph Curry is more popular with fans and media and arguably more important to Golden States system. Take Curry off the squad and nobody trusts the Snake to lead his team to glory.

What he was after wasn’t really the championships but the stardom and relevance that came with it. Up until joining GSW KD had largely been an after thought the last few years due to his injury and the ascension of Steph, Bron rejoining Cle, etc. He made the big shakeup move joining GS to get his name in that convo but people just don’t care about him like that and even he himself can see that.
KD will go down as one of the greats based on what he did in OKC. There isn't much he can do in GS with the team as currently constructed to raise his profile all that much. Even after winning FMVP last year only a small amount of people considered him better than Bron or even Steph. He didn't elevate his game to win a title, he just went to an unstoppable team. Folks respect his game but he didn't really go 'earn' the title in the traditional sense
