A little Information for Brehs Considering Getting a Vasectomy.

I’m looking into getting snipped here soon in the Detroit metro area. What kind of costs should I expect? I’m going to be paying out of pocket and I found a clinic that will do it for $650. I found another spot charging about $1k. That’s quite a difference so I’m wondering if the 1st spot is shady. Their reviews are good on google and yelp tho so I might go with them.

Just checked and found the VA will cover it at no cost. That‘s the route I’ll be going if they can get me in within a reasonable timeframe.

Both those prices sound about right. Different clinics may use different procedures and some may have higher operation cost so they charge more. I would go to whichever clinic does no-scalpel vasectomies(there's a video in the Op thread post spoiler). If the reviews are good for the first spots I don't see the problem personally.

If you unsure you can schedule a appointment to sit down and meet the doctors who will be doing the procedure on you and have them explain their methodology and success rates. Ask how long is recovery for most their patients. Ask them to describe how they perform the procedure and than weigh the two whichever makes you feel the most comfortable.

VA got me in a week early today. During the exam the doc couldn’t feel the vas(I think that’s what they called it) on my left testicle. So I have to be rescheduled and they’ll have to put me under and cut me on the left side in order to do the procedure. So I’ll need more healing time because of stitches. Kind of disappointed actually.

Sorry to hear you could try another Doctor and tell him what happened. Yeah the "vas" also called the vas deferens. I remember my doctor feeling for my vas deferens in the pre-screening stage.
