A lot of best albums are made with the majority of tracks produced by 1 production crew...

Wu-Tang (RZA)
Mobb Deep (Havoc)
Bad Boy - (The Hit men)
Early Ruthless and Deathrow - (Dr. Dre)
The first couple of bone albums (DJ UNEEK)
Cash Money (Mannie Fresh)
HCP (DJ Paul and Juicy J)

I can keep naming...

Using one dope producer or production crew for the entirety of an album always provides a cohesive dope project.

The question I have is why don't more artists and camps use this formula? It's proven by history to work.

A lot of artists now are more about singles than an entire body of work. So they flock to the hottest producer for a banger instead of a solid album. Not saying having multiple cant doesn't produce great albums but it causes the album to sound all over the place causing it not to sound cohesive.

Did Illmatic start the trend of having a bunch of producers on one album?

Or at least if you're gonna have a bunch of producers, pick beats that mesh together well. I can't tell you how jarring it is to go from a soulfull Salaam Remi track to hearing Swizz Beats yell I GOT THE SUMMER ON SMASH. thanks for that Nas.

Albums were everything was done by one producer/production crew are a lot more cohesive and have an overall sound & style which makes the album flow much better.
Look at chronic & doggystyle,2001 etc. etc.
