A Lot of (White) Millennials Get Significant Financial Help From Their Parents

I have three different coworkers 2 females (married) 1 male (single) all white mid 20s to early 30s and there parents do stuff like this

-all there parents pay there cell phones
-one of the girls the parent pay her child care
-other girl her parents pay half her mortgage

How the hell are you married and your parents still supporting you?

Support from my parents was integral to my success. I don't see how people could do it without some kind of support.

my son just turned 18. i told him that after college, he needs to come home and stay about 5 years to get his shyt together. get the career going, save to BUY a crib (no rental houses/apartments), and stack bread to set his bank account up. i left as SOON as i was able to pay bills on my own. didn't stay long enough to stack money or anything. took me a MINUTE to get it together. i want him to leave the house with everything already together. fukk what others have to say about it.

Honestly, my parents are providing and paying for a large amount of my bills (Insurance, Car Insurance, Some college, payed for my car in full, fixes any large issues that I cannot afford to pay for, essentially all I pay is my gas). The list goes on, but now the business I started that I'm investing in is really starting to pay off and will soon be closer and closer to independent. Especially with the new internship/job I got that is offering 50% tuition reimbursement, my own insurance, etc so I can finish my bachelors and do my DPT 50% off. I don't think for one second I would be where I am without them, they have provided absolutely anything I could need. Especially someone like me who lacked a LOT of drive even 2 years prior.

well here is the real question, what IS wrong with it? why not?

A lot of ppl dont realize that this whole once your 18/21 your adult on ur own thing is a very american thing outside of the U.S children being adults and living with there parents is common place, so is the parents providing finical support. As long as the grown adults is not abusing (like my coworker) i honestly see nothing wrong with it

BUT i do it find it very weird, but i give that up to fact that i pay for my things on my own and would neverrrrrrrrr ask my parents for $$$, because they themselves are struggling

Its not just millenials...but even baby boommers benefit from it. I have and seen the stories of grown adult childrens getting $50K to $300K from their parents, to buy a house, car, investments, etc...

Of course, them art degrees ain't paying for all them expensive ass apartments in NY, LA or SF

They low balling STEM majors as well. Yeah, I am fortunate to save up mad $$ throughout my 20s, but most black folk in my age range are broke as fukk, because of no financial help.

But but but you got to move out when you 22 and ball out of control. you got to live in a condo and drive a 7 series BMW and date bad bytches.

That way of thinking will doom America as a whole.

Im thankful my aunt & uncle gave me the opportunity to move in with them to houston after finishing college.

They gave me 5 months to find a full time job rent free.
Then after I found a job they only charged me $200 a month to stay with them for 1yr and some change

In that time frame I was able to pay off 4 credit cards and I have a pretty decent sized savings account just in case I get into a bind or emergency.

Financially besides student loans I'm in a good place right now.

most black people all ages, especially the elders, are just waiting for their turn to die...

This isn't a surprise considering most Black parents kick their kids out at 18. What did you expect?

Not like they'll be around to complain either - But this is why most Black parents won't be getting the VIP funeral treatment - Their kids will remember their stinginess and cash that Life insurance for a Benz

thank God my parents were different. Guess that Jamaican mentality worked out well.

thats where the first few episodes of Lena Dunham Girls was on point, with the entitlement and wanting the parents to support them while they chase their dreams and would pay the cell phone bill..and i messed with a chick exactly like it for a while...the entitlement and the justifications why her parents should do it was funny.

This is no surprise. These white people making 35k a year living in a 3k apartment in Williamsburg or fort Greene. They're clearly getting help...

Even less a lot of time. I used to take calls from these people looking for apartments. They'd have no established credit, be working as a waiter somewhere getting paid off the books.

Buuuut, they'd have like 70k in the bank and a daddy willing to be their cosigner.

A lot of black kids are like that fresh from college QB who got shoved into games in their first year. They simply are not ready for primetime. They get kicked out of the house early with no guidance under the guise of tough love and are expected to make it on their own. They end up making a ton of bad decisions which sets them back financially. They are also unable to save. Why do you think these Mexicans who come across the border can end up owning businesses despite getting paid low wages? They live a ton to a house and they all pitch in, meaning they get to save a lot of money. They then use that to buy businesses and they end up hiring each other. That mechanism simply doesn't exist in a lot of the black community because you'd probably get clowned for 'living with your parents' or with having room mates. It's the same with the Indians. They don't move out until late. All the while, they are stacking money and buying businesses.

My Ex girlfriend's family came up like this.

Said 27 family members occupied a 3 bedroom apartment in Long Beach. Each of them bought in about 325-400 a week off the books. STRAIGHT CASH.

Eventually they became citizens and used the money to open up laundry mats, dry cleaners, and other various businesses.
