Here in BK you have hipsters working at those cafes makin 30 gs a year but living in apartments that are 3-5k a year. Meanwhile im planning to leave BK for Queens(:blessed:) or Staten Island(:scust::childplease:). Its a struggle for a young black male and female in America. We have to get everything in our own while they call us lazy. That shyt pisses me off.

I love the atlantic. First site i check in the morning.
I usually read it, NewRepublic, and the New Yorker when I wake up. I'll also check out a HuffPo article or two.
My issue with the Atlantic right now are all the articles complaining about political correctness.

Wealth doesn't just happen. You're going to need financial assistance from somewhere at sometime from someone. This mythical American notion that one can work hard, and with the grace of God (and only God), you too will immensely successful.

People need to just admit that they're lazy and that's that. You stay with your parents because without them you'd be homeless. Keep telling yourself it's genius move that necessary to come up, yet your situation remains the same day after day.

Another thing I've noticed is a lot of Black kids also don't have cars during college.
When your already limited internship/job prospects are limited to just walking distance, things become even more difficult.
Of the commuters to my university, the majority are Black, and they take the bus.
In theory, you don't need a car for the first 2 years of college. That time should be spent fomenting proper study habits, and stretching your imagination.

Not if you're commuting, need to work, or want to get an internship of any importance.
I was doing all three for a few years, waking up at 5:30 in time to catch the bus across town, not getting back home until 11 or 12 at night, I got robbed one night.
Trust me, unless you're living on campus with opportunities close by, a car is necessary. And I go to a school where 80% of the students have a car.

Why don't you be a good son and put an insurance policy on them?

This is more of a thing for hoodrats who have kids between 18 to 25 and want to be the :flabbynsick: cougar in the club. I'm black and I've never heard anyone's parents I know say this.
welp you aint been around then my friend. the statement above was the norm when i was growing up. "boy when you turn 18, ya outta here. thats it" now granted moms and pops came thru for me when i needed it most. but they didnt come thru for me like i saw girls with two parent homes coming thru for them like clock work. phone bills paid for, rent, etc. car gas paid for. maybe they had to pay for the insurance for their car. i remember one time i had to explain to one chick why i wasnt balling at a young age. i said i was out of work for xxmonths. moms held me down. but that was a LOAN. i had to pay moms back most of that. why? because moms didnt have it like that. she actually needed most of that money back.

things would be a lot different today if my parents just GAVE me stuff when i was 18 o say 25. but if my parents were white they could afford to give me stuff from the age of 18 to 25.

My H and i both had really harsh childhoods/ teenage years.
We pay both of my kids cell phone bills -
i provide free childcare for them
and we generally help with things -ie car repairs, tires stuff when they need it.

this is the reason he and i have both worked so hard all of our lives- so our kids can have the lifestyle that we didnt.
i wish either of our parents had has a dollar to pass onto us to pass onto our children
but they didnt

I'm black and my parents pay for everything. :queen:

I guess it depends on how much money they have to give.

They don't pay for the little extra stuff that I want sometimes. They can, but they just don't want to. They don't think it's important or something that I need/should have. I'm going to pay for those things by myself. Then they're going to ask me what I'm doing with my money and be upset that I'm spending it. & maybe they'll pay for those things too. Idk. We'll see.

I am hoping to hand things down to my kids. We should be striving to give our kids houses too and looking to make the most of what we have, even if it's less than others.... rather than sitting around being jealous and bitter. I am surprised that this is a revelation for people.... that there are people out there with more than them.

Not to mention, as I'm sure you will find comforting, a lot of these parents are going broke trying to "help" their kids out.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/10/your-money/financial-assistance-to-adult-children.html?_r=0

So everything isn't as sweet as it seems.

Regardless, take heed to :dame: words.... stay out of the next nikka's pockets. This is some hoe shyt.

GOOD! They deserve to go broke. All that slave money is bad karma cave dwellers.
