Akata isn't an offensive word. It means: Black Panther. Fela Kuti was the one who started the usage to describe Aframs because he had relations with members of the Black Panther Party (BPP) when he lived in the US in the 60s and also dated an Afram woman who was in BPP. So, he basically started using it as a form of endearment to describe Aframs, rather than say, 'Black Panther Party' and the struggle since he was also an activist. You Nigerian Americans b*stardized the word. Y'all need to claim it and stop putting it on all Nigerians. A lot of Ghanaians and other Africans say that word too and they neither know the origin nor the meaning.

I think the online use of slurs between Black ethnic groups is the least of the problem. That's more a function of modern generation . No shots at anyone but note the amount of slurs, curse words, and emojis in any given thread on ANY internet forum with young members. People don't really communicate (or build) on forums even about serious topics. You know how there are nutritional labels....35% carbs, 15% protein, 50% fat,etc. A good % of what passes as discussion online is FAT.
I'm sure you're aware that P.R./D.R. beef was(is) very real and it played itself out across the parts of the country where these two groups co-existed.On some street shyt, but also in school, social and professional settings....and also back in PR when the two groups interact. Lot of it has died down but I'm saying.
Same is true about beef between American, Continental, and Caribbean African people.

I used an example that you might be familiar with to illustrate that tension between ethnic groups does exist and does play out in real life.
I said that the PR/DR beef played out in the streets AND also in school,social, and professional settings.
Died down some....root of the tension is still there.
Same with beef among Africans of different locations. but to answer your question....parts of Brooklyn in past decades were battlegrounds between AA /Jamaican and later AA/Haitian kids....
Any new ethnic groups gets their asses kicked and picked on before they get the numbers and fight back....I bet whichever new African immigrant group in NYC has kids carrying weapons to school to avoid being victimized by the group in power.
the Zoe gangs were founded in Miami because of physical confrontations between AA/Haitian kids. Lot of ethnic gangs were created at first because of pressure from the older ethnic group in the area towards the new.
aside from Haitians i cant think of any black ethnic gangs......look at Brooklyn, bunch of West Indians banging AA gangs....you don't think its funny that there are no specifically Jamaican American or Nigerian American gangs ?
sure there was disagreements, resentments, and fights but to act like theres wars and all that is not true

In all my years growing up in this city I've never heard of no African Street gangs, they keep mostly to themselves to worry about that shyt. In NYC, they're are too focused on education and networking to worry about fitting in compared to Carribeans.
