Consumers will still be needed...So what benefit does the elite of that future society receive from keeping the masses?In a capitalist society it wouldn't be efficient to keep the majority of us alive.

even water will be a valued commodity in this distant future. Imo consumerism is a result of facilitating the needs of large labor forces warranted by modern nations, if you no longer require the human capital.. what value do their needs hold? time to trim the herd 
How is that going to keep people from losing more jobs to automation?

Good thing I'm into UI design as well.
There is no solution to automation job loss that I can see short of regulating technological advancements and/or their application.
Both of which I oppose.
I really think as the baby boomers begin to die off(
) we will see some give in the job market across the board.

It might be safe to assume that these advances will reduce manufacturing cost, lowering the cost of living altogether. This would allow people to live comfortably off of lower wages. In this senario, the evil of the min wage law is revealed.
