Cut the check. There really isn’t much else that needs to be said. Non-monetary “reparations” will always be a distraction from what we need.

I'm not saying they shouldn't cut the check or that we should stop fighting for the check...but in the meantime there's other things that can help too. And solutions that don't involve cutting the check are much more likely to happen much sooner.

The problem with "cut the check" is that Congress is never going to just mail out checks to all black people, so you're just advocating for black people to give up all their political power and not participate in politics.

They did it for the Japanese families interred during WW2. They did it for Native Americans in the form of land and Casinos. Germany CONTINUES to pay descendants of the men and women who were victims of the Holocaust.

Why is it a question when the payment is made to descendants of those who were held captive in the American system of slavery?

There's no question that it's possible. But half the people that we need to convince are a firm "no", while the other half is not unified on the topic. So it's not likely any time soon.

We can't stop working to improve everything else while we wait for Congress to be convinced to pay reparations...

But at the heart of what’s plaguing black America is the centuries long wealth that was stolen from our ancestors. Until that is addressed, nothing will be improved.

That's not a reason to quit politics. There are other things that could be done that would benefit black America.

But listen to yourself....do you really want to sacrifice your basic rights JUST for a Reparations check? As in, exchanging your basic rights just for a check? So you basically content on living in Jim Crow 2.0 with a bigger bank account? :jbhmm:

We don’t already live in Jim Crow 2.0? Will Jim Crow 3.0 be much different? How many upgrades are we looking at if we don’t toe the Democratic line?

Gotta decide how we determine who is ADOS/FBA.

Before we talk tangibles, we gotta know WHO would get something if $$$ was on the table.

How much ADOS blood do you need? Would a biracial white/ADOS get the same $$$$ as a 98% Black ADOS Geechee or Gullah from SC and GA?

Then you got white folks in the south with 10 to 15% ADOS blood. If we go by blood quantum over time, the government will have less people to pay out since more folks will mix and reduce the number of Blacks with a decently high % of ADOS blood.

If we go with "did you have at least a couple of ancestors that were documented as enslaved/ADOS"....then you gotta include a fair number of white Bubba's.

We need everything goddamn it.

Band aid policies will not close the Racial wealth gap, only Reparations (with direct cash payments) can begin to close the Racial Wealth Gap.

Reparations will have to include some form of lineage therapy and financial classes,
For years Prof Darity has suggested a Trust Fund (in addition to cash payments) which eligible Blacks could apply for grants for various asset-building purposes (home ownership, starting a business, additional education, etc) or a voucher type program for asset-building purposes.
Guaranteed schooling beyond the high school level or medical insurance.

Its not kissing ass to Democrats :beli:

You so focused on money that you willing to GIVE AWAY your other rights for one huge check. That's ignorance unbound. You can have that Reparations check AND keep your rights.

We not in Jim Crow 2.0 yet, but were are very close to. Your way of think will ensure another 90 years of open racial oppression, being unchecked by the law. Talk to your elders first to see if Jim Crow 1.0 did them any good.
