oddly enough, I wanna say Rae and Ghost are the godfathers of this shyt, with Camp Lo/Geechi Suede being unsung heroes and Action Bronson being the fallen son/excommunicated.
if we gonna keep it a stack- Planet Asia & his crew was doing alot of this first..

even put a Roc Marci on a track way back..

Just wanted to throw out an extra level of appreciation for Roc Marci. Low key one of the most influential self-contained artists of the past decade. Rapped, produced, was involved with artwork and promotion, etc. Marcberg but especially Reloaded spawned this entire little wave and sub-genre that's been running steadily for a while now.

I can't even count how many emcees and producers he's influenced. And not only unknowns, but legit up and comers (like Daringer) and even veterans like Pete Rock, Alchemist, Oh No, and Madlib have all said he has been an inspiration.

I wouldn't argue with that. But I do think even though guys like Roc Marciano and Ka were heavily influenced by Rae and Ghost, that they specifically on the Reloaded and Grief Pedigree albums influenced an immediate wave of new-school/post modern New York rap. But yeah it all traces back to cats like Rae and Ghost.

The first Roc Marci joint I remember had them on there.

Basically the GOAT of this movement. He set it off.

word he was the plug. embarrassed to say i was hella late though, first joint i heard was jaws. then i went back and went through everything from the jump

to this day i don't think anybody, not even my griselda goonies have anything harder than jaws b. play it at least twice per week along with jungle fever, pop, jet luggage and flash gordon
