A Plan in Case Robots Take the Jobs: Give Everyone a Paycheck

Rather than a job-killing catastrophe, tech supporters of U.B.I. consider machine intelligence to be something like a natural bounty for society: The country has struck oil, and now it can hand out checks to each of its citizens.

i had this idea awhile back that perhaps one day we will have a situation where the materials to build a robot will be very cheap and easily accessible. Meaning any random person could build one. With that being said, i had this idea that said everyone would have their own bot and you will have to program your own bot to represent you in the workforce. The better you program your bot, the more work it accomplishes, the faster i can do the work, the more accurate it can be while working. This will earn you more money. Now there's an issue at this point in the future everyone will know how to program. it will literally be like speaking. because by then we will be able to clearly speak in our natural language in order to program everything. so there will be no need for some bootcamp coding classes.

But just because you can now tell your bot in english what you want it to do and how to do it. doesnt mean you have a supreme logical mind like a TRUE programmer. who understands problem solving. everyone is not skilled in problem solving. This will create a gap in who's bots work best. And the Rich people will be able to afford to pay for the little guys that have great minds to program them the best bots with the best materials (that wont need as much maintenance, etc.) So there will still be an issue with the haves and have lesses.

If the robot apocalypse really comes as fast as people are predicting this might be a necessary temporary measure. But I hope in the long term this provides an opportunity for humans to find other ways to create value and generate income.

The power dynamics of such an arrangement in the context of human nature make this unrealistic. It will require one of two very unlikely scenarios- profit driven corporations becoming benevolent, charitable and forward thinking overnight, or the govt taking the means of production by force AND managing said means in a sustainable, profitable, innovative matter. Most realistic way forward will be a massive transfer tax on corporate profits, which is a high key lose lose for everybody.

There will have to be a basic income. How to pay for that without destroying the economy or having a revolution is the question.

Ultimately, we have to get to a moneyless society because a basic income and a permanent underclass and wealthy class won't last very long.

The next 50-100 years is going to be unlike anything the world has ever seen before, socially. I hope we make it through.

What this really will mean is the owners of the robots own society since they own virtually all the means of production and they will give people a bit of 'welfare'. This will give them extreme amounts of control over the population since you no longer earn your own income but depend on some entity to give you your subsistence.
