A song about being addicted and nearly dying on Codeine in the 60s. Lyrically is just..

It’s a reason Folk isn’t and has never been a popular genre to sample in hip hop. Instrumentation to bare a basic and the melodies don’t be too pleasing to the ears
exactly. Them guitars and harmonicas bring a weird vibe to a beat.

They give codeine to babies with coughs. Give her fent/xylazene addiction she wont be writing songs about it.

Codeine and morphine come from the poppy flower. They been around thousand of years. Except today lol.

I dunno I feel like someone like Alchemist or Madlib could make an interesting beat tape themed around folk samples. They already sample a lot of unconventional shyt.

Do yo think it’s some shyt in this thread that producers are unaware of or some shyt lol. All genres and styles of music have been dug the fukk through and all the gold has been taken. If it was real value in sampling folk music, it would already be a thing. Producers like alchemist and madlib have heard old folk music. Like I said, while you can pull up many examples, it’s a reason why rap producers typically don’t sample folk music. Sonically, producers simply don’t prefer it. No lush melodies, no baselines, and a lot of minimalistic elements to the music. Those are not elements you looking for when sampling music

Marvin has one of the most haunting records on addiction:

"...Flying high in the friendly sky
Flying high without ever leavin' the ground, no
Rest of the folks are tired and weary
Oh Lord, and have laid their bodies down
Yeah-yeah, oh yeah
I go the place where danger awaits me
Oh Lord
And it's bound to forsake me (ooh Lord)
So stupid minded
I can't help it
Oh, so stupid minded
But I go crazy when I can't find it
In the morning, I'll be alright, my friend (oh Lord)
But soon the night will bring the pains
The pain, oh the pain..."
