Statement David Cornwell made to media outside the building:
"It’s our privilege to represent Jameis Winston. We would ask the media and the public to see this in a context broader than a 24-hour news cycle. This is a process that began when the Tallahassee police department and the state attorney decided not to charge Jameis with a crime. Jameis Winston did not rape or sexually assault (the woman). After that finding by law enforcement, Patricia Carroll gave a press conference where she threatened to sue Jameis. Thereafter, in communication with us, she asked for pre-suit mediation. We rejected that, but we met with her on Feb. 10 of this year. And she said if you pay us $7 million, you will never hear from us again. But if you don’t, we will bring in the Colorado attorneys. And here we are. The execution of a threat not to extort the Heisman Trophy-winning, 28-0, national championship quarterback of Florida State University, but a 20-year-old college student, the son of Antonor and Loretta Winston. We intend to end this process today. Unfortunately, in these type of cases, the only way to confront the lie is with the truth. Jameis will tell the truth today, and we are confident that Justice Harding, when he hears her multiple lies and Jameis’ truth, will find as every other entity has to this point, that she is lying. Jameis Winston did not rape or sexually assault (the woman). We appreciate your time."
