who said that?

at that Red Bull thing Tip basically said that people got it twisted because of the 'clean' image in the videos, and the cover. but he said that he likes that album, and still thinks it's dope

I think it's interesting that everyone loves Dilla, but seem to not like the stuff he did with Tribe/Tip
as dope as dilla was the difference between his style and qtip is super noticable. for ATCQ it just happened to be a step down. in that same red bull interview he said he always focused on musicality...intros, bridges, breakdowns, space... and that shyt is true. dilla didnt do all that

Phife doesn't like it. He didn't like the direction beat wise for that or beats rhymes and life and he said their chemistry was shot

Have to disagree here, at the end of the day Tip and them picked the beats. Dilla's production on there didn't sound like stuff he was doing with the Pharcyde or even Slum for that matter. For BRAL and the love movement Jay's solo beats resulted in the standout tracks. He should have been given full control and not have to be part of the Ummah, Jay knew how to sample well enough to get around sample clearances if need be and still be dope, Tip and Ali not so much. Any "subpar" production on those two releases was a result of them trying to copy Jay's style imo

Nope nope nope.

No chemistry. That's the main issue. The whole album feels like a chore because they clearly weren't enjoying recording it. For me, the magic of tribe comes in the chemistry and the joy and there's no joy in those last two albums which is why they suffer
:patrice: I know Phife spoke on that, but BRAL came off clean. I can see it with the love movement. But as far as straight beats and rhymes, BRAL was that deal/delivered, and fit the dark mood/transition they were going thru perfect.

what are you disagreeing with? even with the pharcyde and sv Dilla did not produce like qtip. and when he arrived the style changed more to his instead of qtip. it's all documented, all you have to do is listen. to dilla's work or qtip's from any period.

the difference is the problem is what I'm saying and you just said the same thing
