Let Congress approve and fund a study to determine a low to high range of how much AAs would be owed, and don't forget inflation . That should be #1 next step. This is to massive of an endeavor to go any further without a comprehensive study or studies.
As I've stated before there are issues/questions/ concerns though
  • What type of methodology will be used to perform this study? Will multiple methodologies be part of this study?
  • We are absolutely only referring to slavery that occurred under the U.S. government? So Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico aren't counted, right?
  • Americans blacks that escaped to Canada and others that went to Liberia, are they included in the conversation?
  • If you are mixed with AA, even if only 1%, are you are part of the conversation?
  • Ultimatel, using the methodology, how are you determining who is would be eligible to any form of reparations
  • Who exactly is putting this study together, and who selects them?
  • How much money will federal government provide to do the study, and will matching funds be allowed?
  • Other questions
There is a mix of objectivity and subjectivity in a study of this magnitude, but it's worth enduring, to get to the root of the issue.

Then when a monetary equivalent is determined based on a particular methodology(ies), the conversation can begin on:
  • 1) If it should be distributed (playing devil's advocate here, pun kinda intended), because the pushback will be massive
  • 2) Then how best to distribute (maybe this requires a 2nd study or within the same originsl study). The reason I say this is because these politicians will feel they need an "out". They may find it difficult to say they support "reparations", but a more comfortable saying they endorse a "study of reparations" which is just enough buffer room. I'm just keeping it 1hunnid.
If these politicians had any sense, they would say they support Congress approving and funding a study. That is a tangible, but they and staff are overstrategizing.
Why would I trust Congress, a political body mostly comprised of cacs, to conduct a fair and neutral study that asseses how much we are owed? :francis:

Total/sole/unrestricted access to the legal marijuana industry. The Native Americans have casinos. America's best selling cash crop needs to be ours.

is there enough land to give every black descendant of a slave in this nation 40 acres? serious question, not trolling.

Alabama alone has about 20 million acres. There are 50 states. There are approximately 80 million Black people in the U.S. Only married families will receive the full 40, so the average gets better. Emminent domain to claim back land from certain federal property. Single men and women would be allloted an acre and up the full 40 when married. Just a thought.

The white supremacy that all of us suffer from to a extent.
The "white man's ice is colder" subconscious thinking, the light is right subconscious thinking.
The self hate you see on display on this forum every day, the thirst for "light brite's" even if there only average like Jordan woods.
That "closest to white" mentality

I'm not American but what I think is owed to you:

1) Re-evaluation of the harmful stereotypes and prejudices in existence. There needs to be acceptance that they're still around, consideration of the damages, and an continuous effort to identify and remove people from position of influence (police, teachers, doctors etc.)

2) There needs to be investment in black communities. Focus should also be spent on networking so that people in the communities have the opportunity to form their own networks (different communities, different communities world wide).

3) low interest loans to encourage business investment.

4) Slashing the down payment required for first time home owners or covering the short fall.

5) Covering tuition fees for the first undergraduate and post graduate degree.

6) Setting up apprenticeships programs in different fields aimed solely at African Americans.

I get annoyed when people try to dismiss talk on relegation as cutting a cheque. That is no where near enough. Steps need to be taken to ensure that we are in control of our own destiny. In the case of AA, America has a responsibility of assisting you in reaching that goal.
