When IG first started out, it's mostly an app for photographers and casual posters.

Around the mid 2010's, the paradigm started to shift. More celebrities start to flock towards the platform. The focus being on being an influencer gained notoriety.

Cardi B's imprint on IG

Cardi B's animated raw behavior along with hood colloquialisms birthed the modern "bad bytch" archetype.

The "Yasssss bytch Yasssss" Cardi birthed that

The "in your face cocky bravado" Cardi birthed that

The "random twerking outta nowhere" Cardi birthed that

Cardi B's caricature of being unapologetically silly humor is what IG models imitated to build a following.

The Influence of Aaliyah on today's IG fashion

Aaliyah's sex appeal and her edgy yet feminine style birthed the modern "IG baddie" look.

Aaliyah's style of using overusing layering pioneered the ultimate "toyboy look". The more layers, the more chic the look. This was has been imitated by IG models.

Starting from "One in a Million" Aaliyah started adopted figure-hugging textures such as leather for a more sultry-seductive looking. Leather/Latex is one of the highest sought fashion items for IG models thanks to brands such as Fashion Nova. IMO, this was one of Aaliyah's best fashion choices.

Aaliyah's iconic look from "Try Again" still remains a force in today's pop culture fashion. This look has been imitated by many including Kim Kardashian and Keke Palmer

Aaliyah's loyalty to Tommy Hilfiger remains a fashion influence today.

Aaliyah's exuded confidence and sensuality set the standards as the archetype most IG models look for.

The greatest flattery is the art of imitation

2 completely random artists from different era's birthed the whole narcissistic IG thit culture culture now? yeah ok that makes sense.
I think it just has to do with these loud obnoxious types get the most clicks, and all that attention and validation is a dopamine rush. Others would naturally follow to get the same results. Loud and ratchet women been around way before social media.
