Man Hall's career really should have taken off after that. But unfortunately this other Bald dark skinned dude with the goatee came in and just took that crown away.

He got did in by (a) drug abuse (b) doin close to a year in Rikers (which stalled his career) and (c) rumors that he abused Gloria Velez and was a woman beater. His downfall had nothing to do with R. Kelly's ascension (if anything R. Kelly and Public Announcement benefitted from Guy's success).

HOWEVER.....according to some former poster on , what REALLY did Aaron Hall in was his proclivities towards kiddie-fiddling. The poster claimed Aaron Hall tried to molest his (the poster's) younger sister, who was only (I believe) 15 at the time. Then the industry rumors of the same type started. It didn't help that Velez co-signed alot of the rumors, whether actually true or not....after all, she got with him (and later had his son) when she was 16 and he was 30, which AIN'T exactly a good look and tends to lend credence to the rumors. Dude been blackballed ever since, and some claim that Velez's relationships with powerful people in the industry additionally did him in and got him blacklisted.

Dude blackballed himself. He made good music, but his ego was out of control. A lot of people that worked with him the 80s/early 90s stopped messing with him because he was so difficult.

He also had a lot of personal issues. His son died in 94, he had problems with drugs & alcohol, and he got locked up for beating women. It's hard to be a successful R&B singer whose main audience is women, and be a known woman beater.

r.kelly wasn't even sounding like aaron hall anymore by '95. hall had won a soul train award for "i miss you" earlier that year, iirc. so what was stopping him after that?
