Guantanamo is still there.
The people against torture weren’t more against torture because of it and the people for it didn’t back down cause they tied it into the fight against terror and not a human rights violation.

I've been updating the ICE thread a ton. I know this.That's not a random twitter user btw. Dude is a Democratic voice often given time on CNN and MSNBC hence why I posted that. He's full of shyt and I complete disagree with him but this is the shyt being argued and I think it's 100% cuz it existed pre Trump so it must be bad due to Trump's control/administration not the agency itself.
The people that needs to be pushed on this issue are obviously Democratic leadership but also the folks that have some faith in them. Notice how those who are trying to downplay the Ocasio-Cortez win always mention that as far as being "radical" and not flying elsewhere.
I'm not one of those us vs you folks but I see how local media will talk about whatever ICE raid and how someone could not be made aware of this. Other than the separating children aspect, I have no clue what these folks are aware of in terms of how bad it is and I'm sure they have no clue how new it is.

Guantanamo is not my domain though as it was the first human rights travesty of that scale and I was too young/naive to soak it in like this situation. I can only speak for what I remember reading after the fact. You should probably start a new thread to speak on the hypocrisy of Guantanamo though........

My point was about ICE and how the attacks against it don't really matter. ICE is just a symbol of the argument about immigration on both sides so both sides will mean different things because of it.You're getting a bit carried away here b

ICE existed under Obama but wasn't pulling tactics to this scale cause it was an extension of Obama's Justice Department and direction. ICE under Trump and Sessions is pulling this by their string. The reason the idea of abolishing ICE is because it has become very obvious how much it can be used to hurt immigrants in the wrong hands. So calling for the "AbolishICE" won't work cause it's just a symptom of the person in charge so it will be part of the immigration argument and not about one agency.
The rights abuses of Bush at Guantanamo were solely on him. That image didn't exist before him so there's nothing to compare it to the way ICE is under Obama and Trump.
