What did it lack?
The magic and replay value of the first two. The cohesiveness. Although it was cohesive in its own right. And the single worthy songs. The bangers. The jams that stand on their own apart from the album. Plus it ain't live up to the hype. Still a good album. Don't get me wrong

I went to go see him perform a couple weeks back and it was by far the best concert I've ever been to. The Vanguard are an amazing band and D'Angelo's transition from soul crooner to James Brown 2.0 is an incredible one. The man's control of the band and their timing with the songs had me like :wow:
