Lemongrass, cherries, alkaline water
HBCU grad, few points

-Lack of funding. There's no gym.

No gym? You're at a shyt school, period.

-Mf's here blatantly skip class for 3-6 weeks at a time. Why pay 30k a year to not go to class?:mindblown:

You think yuppies at PWI's aren't skipping class?

-and then when we do have to do some work i.e. Writing a 1-3 page paper, these same people are complaining like the professors are pulling teeth. At the state school the black pop was like 45%, but if you were fukking around academically, the other black people there would sort of distance themselves from you.

:duck:
-Overcharging for dorms
Not exclusively an HBCU problem

-I rarely get emails in my student email account. On the rare occasion I get a reminder to vote for SGA or something. No reminders for internships or job fairs. But I get an email for the Que cookout we had last Sunday :dahell:

Besides email from your professors/advisors, what kind of emails are you expecting?

-Students more worried about Greek life, running for SGA, etc then actual work. Like wtf man. Ive gotten some draws but yo in the grand scheme of things that's a small part of the equation..you can always get draws if you decent looking but I have a problem with these schools being poorly ran and they try to cover it up under the guise of "We need HBCU's" well Shii I agree. I also stand by what I've noticed in the time I've spent at one:manny:

Yea Greek life is a big thing on HBCU campuses, that's more of a complaint about the student body. Just worry about what you came there for.

Man, woman, and child
Im a proud Morgan State graduate but I did my first 3 semesters of college at a PWI on a football scholarship. There was way more partying and skipping class at the PWI...BY FAR. At Morgan I had full access to the gym and still do if I have proof Im alumni.

Cant front tho they did mess up my health insurance:francis:

But overall it was one of the best experiences of my life. Sounds like your school just sucked:yeshrug:

Man those nikkas at hbcus not be trying to learn...they go there to fukk, party and get away from home

this reason right here is why I didn't consider going to an HBCU. I would have been chasing hoes the entire time and probably would have flunked out. I wasn't a good enough student to avoid that type of temptation and distraction.

It's hard to read this, and to read people bashing HBCUs in general period.

But as a former student of two, I know exactly what you speak of. And it's not to say that some of these things don't happen at PWIs, it's just that these things happen ten-fold AND go unchecked, at HBCUs. It's such a shame. And again, I speak from EXPERIENCE. :wow:
I have the exact same experience, summer classes at an HBCU taught me exactly how little of a fukk most of those students give.
Part of the reason is that the majority of HBCU students come from majority-Black/all-Black high schools, and so they're used to it being a certain way, and it just continues.
Central State University here is basically a "go in and party" school for 4 years, and the retention rate is like 27% :mjlol:
Its even like this at Howard, though you have a greater number of dedicated students there, there is still a big chunk of students who are there just to fukk around.
In a number greater than what you get at a state school.
I love HBCUs though. :mjcry:

SO we're just going to :cape: for HBCU's off GP and not even acknowledge that the majority of these institutions suffer from crappy financial infrastructures, lax administration, and less than stellar academics?

Ignoring the problem won't make it go away.

I don't think it's :cape:for them. I think it's at least respecting what they meant for the black community. I was taught by black professors (eleven classes in total), and was surrounded by black organizations and groups; and to be fair those were the best experiences of my life. So I could respect people who want defend them passionately. Just my opinion.:yeshrug:

I'm not knocking the concept of HBCU's AT ALL, I went to a PWI and all four years I was there I wished there were more black people around me. But my big hangup about HBCU's are the above mentioned admin and academic issues that are not being addressed because people want to look at these schools through rose-tinted glasses instead of fixing the problems.
