Depends on the driver. Many people report averaging very impressive gas mileage in these cars, mostly due to the bigger intakes and more efficient suspension systems. All of that = higher gas mileage because the car is operating more efficiently than a car with smaller intakes and standard suspension systems.

On the 03-05 models that was an issue, yes. Not on any model before or after those years.

And that was only an issue on the P71s of those years, not the civilian base model Crown Vics of those years.

The vast majority of those units have been recalled and/or decomissioned, though..
but personally I still wouldn't take a chance with a P71 from those years

From my research 2007 P71s are the best year to get.

None of the rear collision issues

It's also the last year before they switched to the LESS fuel efficient flex-fuel engines found in '08s and up

And they still have the traditional frame-on-body designed, not the weaker less sturdy frame design of today's CV's.

Many times when you see modded out Crown Vics on the streets looking this clean, you're looking at an ex P71, and you don't even realize it (if it doesn't still have the dead giveaway spotlight):
