about to get my 1st laptop

.....while I used one briefly once during school i'm more familiar with desktops so I have a few questions...the 1st of which is how do u create the internet connection between a laptop and your provider? with my old computer I plugged the chords into a router but I notice on laptops those aint available...some lady at Wallyworld told me that I would probably need a monitor but I didn't need one with the laptop I borrowed at school and I don't see people whom carry/use laptops around town with monitors....lastly is it true that these things have batteries that need to be recharged after a extended period of time and if so how long does that usually take to charge and will my info be lost while it's charging?

You'd need a WiFi router if you don't want to be attached to the connection point in your crib - i.e. move between rooms and keep multiple connections


You'd connect your drop (from your provider) from your modem to the router then connext your desktop (if you still plan to use it ) to the router and connect your laptop wirelessly.

If your laptop doesn't have an Ethernet port, you'd have to use wireless. If it does, you can connect wirelessly or wired...



Laptops have batteries. They needed to be recharged. How long between charges depends on the laptop hardware (battery size), operating system and things like screen brightness and what your doing to drain the battery. Most modern OSes will suspend/hibernate or of the box if the battery gets low. When you charge it back up to the point of having enough power to reboot and stay on, your work comes back up.

Go to a gateway store and they will help you out

get a laptop with a solar panel on the back of the screen to help with battery life.
and don't worry about internet connection...the internet is wack sauce.
