How does this work? Let's say Kendrick owns 10% of TDE, and the company grosses 50M in a fiscal year; is he automatically entitled to 5M? Or does he still have to be paid a salary like a company officer?

Here’s the direct quote

“People really don’t know that Kendrick owns a percentage of TDE,” says Tiffith with no small measure of pride. “The movie, the TV shyt that we’re working on, Kendrick’s going to be executive producer on whatever we do.”

So he gets a standard cut for an executive producer on all projects? I'm trying to figure out how something like this works in general not just Kendrick. An artist being signed to a label they own a portion of...

It seems like Cole is the only one in a good contract situation and he probably sacrificed a lot for it.

Cole signed a 360 which is sacrificing a lot but Cole became successful which earned him enough money to purchase his master's obvuously. it's a reason why Jay wouldn't release the sideline story until Cole had a single that they could push. two of them failed and Cole even spoke on it.

Let’s ask @THE RETIRED SKJ he might know

thanks for the mention Ziggiy...

and keep up the good work with your webseries...

but i refuse to be the male version of Yvette Carnell on the Coli in regards to recording contractual issues

because i don't want everything i say to be seen as negative

yes i have spoken on the convuluted issues regarding not only TDE but Kendrick's deal in the past

i honestly really like KENDRICK as an artist and wish him the best..and hope everything is in this young brother's favor and that TDE has his best intrests at hand

considering he has carried this label like a franchise player for real ...

so on that note...God Bless and Good Nite :troll:

why do people act like rappers touring is some gruesome, tiring sh!t.. :dahell:

it aint like dudes backpacking all around the world, doing small venues..

nikkas on his level get chauffeured around in luxury cars, free stay at 5 star hotels in each city, and they have a demand list of whatever food, liquor and drugs they want, followed by their choice of women. I don't know why they act like superstars touring is a bad thing.

All top performing artists are in some kind of 360 deals.

Merch, endorsements, and other side businesses is how most entertainers make their money.

He could be in a 360 with TDE not Interscope.

This is possible but unlikely. I'm not aware of TDE having anyone under a contract like that. They clearly handle their own merch/touring/etc but I haven't seen or heard about the artists having a 360. It's an "indie" label.

I left Interscope right before Kendrick signed. There was no 360. TDE signed specifically because Interscope offered them a lot of flexibility to continue handling what they normally handle (in house production, management, tour shyt, etc).

My general impression of the forced attempts to get Kendrick into the mainstream (Taylor Swift, pop features etc) are twofold. Dre and Jimmy Iovine weren't entirely sold on Kendrick initially. His height, music sound (OD and Sec80 don't sound anything like mainstream rap, and unlike So Far Gone or The Warm Up there isn't much pop rap potential on both tapes), background as a ghost writer...it just wasn't compelling. Stat Quo and others pushed hard for it to happen, and Dre came around. I don't know if Iovine did back in 2011/2012 but clearly he believes now.

Point being they tried to force him into a pop role to see how it would go. Same reason for the Gaga stuff back in 2012. Second part...they eat off his music. They want big singles and features and all that shyt.
