H. Youngblood says: Take another look at the Panther Super Bowl team, there's not another QB in the NFL that could have gotten that team, that far. Ted Ginn Jr. was the number one receiver. Cam Newton was the QB,RB and the FB. Yeah, the defense was great but Newton had to score 30 plus points in most of the games just to hang on in the 4th quarter.

Cian Fahey has high praise for Cam Newton

The QB expert and founder of presnapreads.com shared a surprising take on Cam Newton while speaking on the Pardon My Take podcast.

Cian Fahey is pretty widely regarded as one of the brightest minds on the Internet when it comes to evaluating QBs. Earlier this summer, we took a look at Fahey’s chapter on Newton in his book, Pre-Snap Reads. In that chapter, Fahey praised Newton’s deep accuracy while pointing out that Newton did all that could be reasonably expected given his situation.

Here we are one month later, and more praise is being heaped on the
Panthers QB by the Irish analyst. While on the Pardon My Take podcast, Fahey was asked to rank his top 5 NFL QBs. His answer:

  1. Aaron Rodgers
  2. Cam Newton
  3. Tom Brady
  4. Andrew Luck Russell Wilson Drew Brees
  5. Philip Rivers

That’s right. According to Fahey, Newton is the second best QB in the NFL. I don’t even think most Panthers fans would rank Newton that highly. Still, seeing such a respected name speak so highly of our quarterback is a welcome break from all the hot taeks.

Also, Fahey put
Derek Anderson on his Mount Rushmore of backup QBs. That’s cool too.

If you want to hear the words come out of his mouth, listen to
this episode of Pardon My Take. The interview with Cian starts at 20:17, his Mount Rushmore starts at 33:18, and his top 5 NFL QB rankings start at 35:04.

Cam Newton has had to carry a heavy load on offense.

At one point, Ted Ginn was the clear #1 WR on the team! Ted Ginn, brehs.

Throw Cam in Alex Smith's situation or Big Ben's situation or Dak Prescott's situation or many other situations and he is easily a top 5 QB.

He's not the 2nd best QB in football. Nor is he top 5

I'm not saying he is. :yeshrug: To me, he's not even Top 15 right now.

I'm saying if you put him in Prescott's situation last year, Cam Newton is a top 5 QB.

He has the tools. Breh just has had to do too much and has really fukked up his body (and brain) in the process.

You nikkas really believe a talent like Newton with that Cowboys line, Ezekiel, Witten, Bryant and crew wouldn't fukk shyt up in the NFC? :dahell:

You nikkas think Tom Brady or Russell Wilson are leading a Panthers squad with Ginn as the #1 WR to the Super Bowl?

Cam has been through more shyt to hinder a QB's progression in his 6 years than any other QB in that span, and he's still come out with a MVP, a SB appearance, 3 straight playoff appearances, and a ceiling that many still consider fairly high.

Like even if you don't like the man, that is a severely incredible accomplishment in and of itself.

I like to think this can be his bounce back year, but the main cog in the machine for a good few years now, the offensive coordinator Shula, is still here. Shula showed flashes of not being god awful in 2015, but that was still mainly bailed out by a transcendent performance by Cam. So even if he does return to form this year, I still believe for him to be consistently great, he's gonna need a coordinator who can actually tailor an offense to what's working and not working year to year. Like what Brady has with the Pats, Ben has with the Steelers, what Russ has with the Hawks, those QBs dont just get jerked into shyt play call after shyt play call.

Cam top 7 to me. That SB year said to me that he could win without legit weapons and now they added two playmakers in Caf and Samuel. Also, we talk about Wilson's lack of OL, but Cam's situation might be worse. One had to retire, the other has a gif being slid back with ease in the biggest game of the year.

I'd go Rodgers, Brady, Wilson, Luck as my top four, but after that? Cam is in that first group of QB's I'd take. For sure, he has the highest upside of the remaining ones.

And even then, Luck is kinda :patrice:to me.

I actually thought about buying the pre snap reads book because I know he legit watches and puts in the work. But Bortles is my QB, no need for in depth analysis in that one. Eye test is absolutely enough

Scam had a historically great season in 2015, I'm not gonna take that away from him (even tho he had an elite defense that ranked #1 in takeaways and got him the ball on his side of the field more than any other team in the league that year). But if you look at his career, he's an inaccurate (sub 60% completion) mediocre rated QB.

I also love how y'all just randomly say "he's in a bad system so if you put him in this situation he'd be GOAT". The Panthers system is built around his strengths. Power running game, zone read & play action. The Panthers aren't running the West Coast offense or a passing game built on making precision passes. So Scam is in a great (not perfect) system for him.

As far as #2 in the league that's laughable. He's a top 15-20 QB at best right now

Typical Scam excuse machine. Blame the system for the QBs failures, put little to no pressure on the $100 million dollar QB to raise his level of play.

And what ceiling are y'all waiting on? Breh this isn't 2011, he's a veteran, established QB. 2015 was an outlier, take that season out and you see what he is: A mediocre passer who is becoming less effective as a runner as his body wears down from injury

The system itself isn't bad. It's the quality of the players around him in that system.

Up to this point, only Olsen has been consistently good.

WRs have been inconsistent.
RBs have been inconsistent.
Offensive line has been inconsistent.

Accuracy issues aside, you really want people to believe Cam would be average with the personnel Prescott is working with? Or Big Ben? Or Brady?

I don't think Newton is a T-15 QB coming into this season, either.

But, I don't hate the man and know he'd be spectacular under different circumstances.

This nikka did lead an offense with Ted Ginn as his #1 WR to the Super Bowl.

You're telling me he wouldn't beast with that Dallas cast or that Atlanta cast?

How accurate would that nikka have to be throwing to Julio Jones or Dez Bryant? Would he have to run it as much if he's handing it off to Ezekiel or Freeman?

nikka, you just have an irrational hate for the man as if he owes you money or stole your girl.

Is he the best QB in the league? Not at all.

Has he underperformed relative to his potential? Absolutely.

Would he beast if given the personnel other QBs have been given? Definitely.

You think your hometown QB, Matt Ryan, would be beasting with that Jets personnel or that Chargers personnel?

How would Philip Rivers do with that Atlanta personnel?

Talent can only take you so far as a QB. Ask Dan Marino. Give him the personnel Jim Kelly had and the Dolphins win multiple Super Bowls with Marino as QB.
