He was a pretty normal psychology professor until he became popular/controversial for opposing use of gender pronouns on college campuses, and from there he took the right wing grift and ran with it to the point where now he's the face of anti-wokeism in academia. He deliberately aligns himself philosohically with a lot of ideas that are part of right wing thinking, even if he doesn't seem overtly racist. He talks about the virtues of being a rugged individualist who is only out for yourself, believes in "might makes right," etc.
