Anyhow, OP has a point. It's not even just about being ugly/attractive, it's about being honest with yourself.

I can usually pull 8s, so I'm most confident when I'm dealing with 8s. As I get more and more experience with women who are 8s, it becomes easier for me to deal with 9s and 10s.

Not all dimes are only strictly to confidence, but if you practice and move up, you can pull one that does. You gotta crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run brehs.
