Hell yeah lol. I still do a lot of this till this day. Also putting a pot of salt on the stove to keep bad energy away. Make sure you have collards and black eye peas for new years.. clean up ya place and bring in the new year spotless for good luck.

I'm most familiar with
  • Black eyed peas
  • Kissing at midnight
  • Not doing laundry til after the 1st
Black people are superstitious and do ish like spit behind their back if a black cat crosses them or not opening umbrellas inside cuz that's bad luck.

If all of these superstitions look foreign to you then :mjpls:

Make sure to come in the House with money in your pocket, that way you'll have money all year. Hopping John, Greens either Collard, Mustard, or Turnap, and some type of pork to eat.

Someone always brought some champagne to my grandma house growing up tho. Had my first sip as a kid like 6. I remember it tasting awful and handing it back to my aunt. Everybody bust out laughing

A lot of them folks have passed away. Practically everyone there come to think of it sans myself, moms and 2 uncles. Crazy.
