The old women in my family practiced some of those superstitions.
Black-eyed peas
Collard greens
Not doing laundry on the last day of the year
Not allowing a womnn to be the first person through your door in the new year.

Same with my family. Soul Food on New Year's Day.
No laundry, for us it was on New Year's Day iirc, fear of washing someone out the family. A man has to be the first through the door.

I know about cleaning the entire house and doing all the laundry before the first…never got the “significance” behind it but I just do it out of habit…feels good to bring in the new year with everything tidy…maybe it’s more about that than anything superstitious
