There has been plenty of news in the sports community lately concerning gay athletes. First Jason Collins came out as the first athlete in any of the major sports to reveal that he was gay and recently professional soccer player Robbie Rogers also announced that he was gay. It appeared as though the world of sports had caught up to society in being accepting of an alternative lifestyle.
Apparently Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson is not among those who believe in everything the gay community stands for. Peterson told the sports network NESN that he doesnt support gay marriage.
To each his own. Im not with it. But I have relatives that are gay. Im not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love em. But again, Im not with that. Thats not something I believe in. But to each his own.
Peterson is certainly entitled to his opinion but its a little strange that he doesnt support something that involves him personally since he has family members who are gay. Its hypocritical of Peterson to say that he treats his gay family members the same when its clear that he doesnt.
If the running back truly felt that unbiased towards them, as he says he is, then he would have no problem with gay marriage.
However, no matter what Peterson believes about gay marriage, its just another case of an athlete in a major sport reminding us why its so difficult for gay athletes to come out. Players like Adrian Peterson who voice any kind of negative opinion on the gay lifestyle will continue to make it increasingly harder for athletes to open up and let anyone know theyre gay.
The good news is that athletes are coming forward and refusing to be scared of letting the world know theyre gay. The sad part is there is still an uphill climb for acceptance in the sporting world. Adrian Peterson doesnt stand alone in his opinion and that is unfortunate. The more athletes that denounce the gay lifestyle, the more likely athletes who are gay will keep it a secret.

why are articles written about athletes opinions on topics like this? hes paid to play football, not provide social commentary...
I kind of agree with this to a point. They'll badger the shyt out of him until he either snaps or refuses to answer any question about it which will lead to media speculation. Trying to make news instead of covering it
