you can't conclusively say that, all kids respond differently. when i got whoopings, i didn't repeat that behavior, but if i got lectured to death and the whole "disappointed in you speech" that also kept me from repeating bad behaviors, while my middle brother didn't respond to anything - true knucklehead - and my oldest responded to whoopings only. hitting your kid clearly cant be the only way you discipline them (i personally don't think i will do it if i have kids) but you can't say it's ineffective...you're teaching crime = punishment, better a belt from mom & dad than being hauled off to juvie by the cops

Ironically, the reason for the beating was because the kid was putting his hands on other kids. Can't imagine where he got such an idea from.

Y'all know I'm a teacher, but I also do daycare (3:30-6:30) with PreK3 & PK4, so I'm pretty familiar with this age group. I'll simply say this: any man who damages a child like that - especially in that age range - should be executed.

I dont know AD's situation, does he live with any of his kids?
Was this a kid of his he sees a handful of times a year or regularly sees and is an influence on the kids life? Was the kid really 4 years old?

I need some context on this situation before I can feel anyway about it.

My parents had 7 kids and they would discipline with some light physical force. Looking back I dont think it was necessarily wrong, because I certainly learned lessons from it and it helped me think about my actions. It never got to this type of level with being lashed multiple times, maybe a belt slap, spanked, hair pull, attempted slap that would always miss because Id run my ass away, etc,. I can accept it now because my parents were attentive, loving and always around/there for us.

Like I said, I dont know AD's situation, but if this is a more of absentee spot, then it would seem out of line to me. If this kid was indeed 4, then it was out of line. My parents didnt lay a hand on any of their kids until we matured into kids that actually had some critical thinking skills.

There's been a LOT of stupid shyt posted in here, but your post just might be the worst. There are lunatics in this world that are killing ppl "for their own good". There are sexual predators out there that justify their actions as "exposing children to their sexual inhibitions at an early age". What would you think if I tracked you down, and beat the shyt out of you? Suppose I got caught, and told the cops "I was just trying to show him how bad of a thing it was. I was teaching him to not do that to someone in the future". What do you think my chances of getting a pat on the back would be?

It also amazes me how all of a sudden some of y'all were child prodigies. How, all of a sudden, you knew right from wrong when you were 4. Meanwhile, I can barely remember the happenings of my early elementary school years. I don't give a fukk what you think you know, a four year old doesn't have the capacities to truly distinguish what's right and wrong. There are ppl that fight against teenagers being tried as adults, arguing that they don't don't know what they're doing, but a four year old does? This is his SON. He is responsible for everything that he does, not you. Don't act like you care about what happens to AD's kid more than he does. It was against your beliefs on how to discipline a child, great. I'm sure your folks did some shyt to you growing up people would have a problem with. I got my ass beat too (West Indian parents ). With anything, really. Not to the point where it left marks like that though. That IMO is abuse and I can't defend AD here.
