Nobody likes a child beater. Barring AP from all team activities is a great start. He should work out a plea deal that involves lots of community service and parenting classes. DO DAMAGE CONTROL NOW. Defiant tweets/texts and "I'd do it again" public statements only dig the hole deeper.

It's ironic because the public is applying the heavy hand to AD, just like he did to his kid.

The sad thing is it takes something like this to even raise the discussion about this kind of discipline though. Whoopings like that basically dehumanize the kids. Why do we whip dogs or choke them with their leash when they do something wrong? Because we can't communicate with them. We CAN communicate with our kids.

And physical discipline can be ok if the parent keeps a cool head. How many of us got their ass whooped by a parent, and they hit harder because we didn't cry? It goes away from a teaching moment. Some parents seem to forget the lesson they're trying to teach and get locked in on wanting the kid to show they're in pain. When you're simply trying to inflict pain on your kid with no reservations, that's abuse. And when alcohol is involved, all bets are off.
