It takes a lot for me to neg someone...
OP you came close...
Nobody thought he was going to be a all pro NFL QB to begin with
he was the 4th QB selected...
and went to the Raiders...
He still ended up with 21tds to only 12ints
He beat his rival team(49ers)
and he had no weapons...
Sometimes you just gotta do the eye test
and where the fukk is this thread coming from anyways
its fukking mid February and the Raiders haven't played a game in 51 days!
I accept and appreciate your points, here are my rebuttals:
1. Most QBs selected 4th don't succeed. When you're selected 4th, this implies NFL teams don't think you're very talented to begin with, and we know Carr had few physical limitations. This implies NFL teams passed him over on account of non-physical football tangibles, which are worse indictments of ability than physical football tangibles (i.e. Tom Brady). For reference, the 4th QB taken in the 2013 draft was Matt Barkley and partly because he had a weak arm. The 4th QB taken in the 2012 draft was Brandon Weeden, based on similar NFL non-physical football tangibles to Carr. In 2011 the 4th QB taken was Christian Ponder, a bust. In 2010 the 4th QB taken was Colt McCoy, a bust. In 2009 the 4th QB taken was Pat White, a bust. And the list continues, all busts. The only notable guy I can think of whom surpassed expectations over where he was drafted but had the physical ability is Nick Foles.
2. The box numbers look great but Carr has a plethora of jump ball receivers and a strong arm. He is going to throw some TDs and win some games like Cutler, but poor play on a play-by-play basis isn't rewarded on a long term basis, as Cutler shows. I don't even think Carr will be as good as Foles.
3. McGloin recorded a better NEP with worse Raiders' weapons and fewer reps than Carr received in 2014. The "weapons" argument is bunk. Andre Holmes and co. are 6'3, athletic and can jump.
