Create a three column spreadsheet:
1. What you take in monthly-salary
2. Necessary monthly expenses-rent, food, loans, car note
3. Luxury monthly expenses-movies, dinners, etc

add everything up. Subtract column 2 from 1. Save 75% of the difference in an online account. Spend the rest on column 3.
It takes time and discipline. good luck

I agree with everyone that said have part of your check automatically deposited into a savings account-I did that and it made a huge difference.

also if you see something you want, give it 1-2weeks before your buy it. Chances are the itch to spend will have been gone by then. If you do buy something, if you can’t find an immediate need for it, return it to the store.

  1. Pay yourself first whenever you get paid. Like someone already stated... Take 10% of your wage and put it into your own savings account. (Have at least 2 accounts... 1 where you use to pay for bills and essentials and the other to save money. Don't mix the two. I personally have 3)
  2. Get a budgeting app where it tracks your daily spending on what you're spending your money on as well as what money comes into your pockets. This way you can see (in visual form such as pie chart or graphs) the percentage of where you're money is going as well as setting a budgeting plan to help you cut back on excess spending (I've personally used spendee but there are plenty others which are good as well)
  3. You can always save more then you think you can. Start out small such as saving 10% but gradually increase it once you know your spending habits and can easily adjust and cut back on the unneccesaries. ( I went from saving £250 every month to now saving at least £600-£700 a month... and this is on the same salary. It's all about cutting back on the things you really don't need)

Ask yourself why you are wasting money

What are you buying?
How does it make you feel?
Do you have the same feeling 2 weeks after you bought the item?

Why do you have extra money in the first place? your pay check should go straight to your account.
Pay your bills online.
Have a budget for the week.

If you're paid by direct deposit then have it go directly into your savings. Transfer out only what you need into your checking.

Many savings/ money market accounts have a withdrawal limit, typically 6 per month.

So plan accordingly to avoid any fees. Perhaps taking out a lump sum to cover erything.:francis:
