Yeah their early roster didn’t interest me at all.

Joey Janela, QT Marshall, Marko Stunt? :heh:
Jimmy Havoc, Shawn Spears, Sonny Kiss, Leva Bates. I was only checking out certain parts of Dynamite. Nothing was worth watching the entire show. These dudes are delusional trying to praise those early years. :scust:

Hell, their 1st ever match, the Casino Battle Royale, featured a guy with no feet. :heh:

Omega main evented a show, I think a YouTube show against Joey Janela it was a "Lights Out" Match. I remember it being pretty good and people going wild over it.

The reason I bring this up: AEW has matches like that all the time now. WWE has matches like that all the time. It was a thing because of how God awful WWE was at the time and how refreshing AEW was at the time.

WWE needed better stories and did that. WWE needed better wrestling and did that.

AEW still has the wrestling but they are severely lacking in the department that a lot of casuals watch for. The stories.

I’ve said it before, but the lack of depth for that early AEW roster is what eventually made me stop watching.

Like @MenacingMonk said, I didn’t start watching regularly until Punk came on board and the quality of that roster started skyrocketing shortly after that. I was in Cloud 9 when they brought in Danielson and Adam Cole on the same night.

I would've given their first 6 months an A-. Overall I'd give them a B-. Right now they're a C.

The show has gotten watered down a lot with all their shows and huge roster. They haven't had many good angles in the last year imo. Success wise they've had a pretty good run.

Cody's minimized influence and then leaving was the difference in the show feeling like WCWs successor to feeling like an indy show with a big budget.

I don't see these PPVs as As. If there's no point to the matches and no reason to care, that matters, even if the wrestlers physically have an impressive match. A big part of a good PPV is I'm looking forward to it and care going in.
