No they didn’t, no they thought this Asante igbo or ewe was being caged.

Racial consciousness cane way later.

They saw some of their own caged or taken away as well. Whites (with African help) were taking anyone and everyone that shared a certain "trait." If they're taking everyone, well then you have a basis for some sort of unity. Everyone who shares a certain "feature" should stick together. That feature wasn't religion, tribe, language, country or anything else. Whatever "feature" made you a target to be caged and shackled, should've been examined. If you had that feature, you should've been worried that you were next. It shouldn't have taken a long time to figure out what that feature was.

Btw, I'm not being disrespectful to anyone. I'm glad we're having this discussion.

There were tribal lands, kingdoms and chiefdoms. saying because we didn't shape our world the same way Europeans did their means we didn't have unity is false. The world just changed and we got swept up in it and had to adapt rapidly. Trans Atlantic Slave trade applies to a minority of Africa. Yet Colonialism applied to a vast majority.

They bought and stole people and enslaved others right at home. Whatever happened was going to happen regardless. We didn't have the artillery power or the foresight to predict the level of malicious intent demons carry. There was no memo going out saying the world was trying to destroy us.

Today there is a race consciousness that didn't exist back then.

10 LIKES! Fyi,not all of us were at each others throats constantly-yes,we fought over cattle, byatches and resources but we were more in cooperation and never EXTERMINATED EACH OTHER. Last week I was having a convo about we Kikuyus and Maasais-WE WOULD HAVE MERGED BY THE EARLY 20S IF NOT FOR COLONIALISM!!?

Here's LSB Leakey,(yes,I know, but nikkas need to learn to take knowledge fro all sources!) on famous Chief Lenana of the Maasai.

"Again, it is best presented in Leakey’s own words, “The Maasai were always particularly keen to make use of Kikuyu medicine men and diviners, and it was due to this that the Kikuyu sub-clan known as Mbari a Gatherimu gradually obtained enormous power over the Kaputei Maasai, some members of this Kikuyu family eventually becoming chiefs of this section of the Maasai tribe. The famous Maasai chief Lenana [Ol Onana] was the son of Mbatia, a Kikuyu. Mbatia was the son of Gathirimu and Lenana was the recognised chief of all the Kaputei Maasai at the time of the coming of the Europeans.”

Strange misunderstood relationship

A fascinating read that confirms what some of us have known for a while. Imo,however we dropped our matriarchical culture in S Ethiopia decades after leaving Egypt. Wife of Tuthmosis IV,Mutemwiyya (Honoured Mother) died circa 1500 bc. Anyway there was a form of Kikuyu hieroglyphs that died out in the 30s and we speak of a Mutumuia with same meaning.

Here's my GGGgrandfather on mum's side,Waiyaki wa Hinga, buried alive by the Brits. Like many Southern Kyukes he was adapted from the Maasaai. I met his youngest bro in 1980 when he was at least 110.

"For starters, while Waiyaki is thought to have hailed from the Kikuyu community, the book traces the warrior-king’s roots to the Masai of Laikipia.

The author reveals for the first time that Waiyaki’s real name was Koiyaki and that his father’s name was Kumale ole Lemotaka, from Laikipia."

THE DEPTH OF THE POPULATION DISPLACEMENT,RESOURCE THEFT AND MASS MURDER that happened during colonisation astonishes even experienced observers. As recently as the early 60s there were pygmies in Oz,North Queensland.

"Yet, since then, the Australian pygmies have been totally obliterated from public memory. To test just how complete this process has been, over recent months we have questioned a wide range of friends and acquaintances. Although most were well-educated and well-read people, none had ever heard of the pygmies, not even when we used some of their other, once-familiar alternative names such as “Negritos” and “Barrineans”. A few friends scoffed at the notion and demanded some evidence. They wouldn’t believe us until we emailed them the photographs."

Sell another black man in exchange for a bottle of alcohol brehs. nikkas lost and still make the same retarded decisions centuries later.
Not trying to :cape: for the colonizers but if you really read up, you’ll know that tribes sold out other rival tribes for better trade and resource opportunities with the Europeans.

those are the biggest c00ns in history to me

Drop some links if you can. Yes that stuff did happen from my readings too but again they were rivals.

I would argue that the Africans involved were not aware of the extent of the depravity that whites were engaging in by the time it hit them that it was extremely cruel and it would hit them the wheels were already in motion and it was too late. Some tribes who had well known slave traders had their villages burned down and traded into slavery when euros decided to switch up on them from some of the accounts I’ve read.

Whatever was gained from trade with euros pales in comparison to what was lost.

Also remember every ethnic group didn’t operate the same, not everyone engaged in the practice.

How did we not have guns if we were selling black people in exchange for guns since the 1600s? That's 300 years of trading people for guns before the scramble for Africa. I mean, what the hell?

BREH, TIL TODAY IN 2020 THERE'S ONLY ONE BLACK AMERICAN GUNMAKER!?

Shellbacksupply.com. From what I've seen they're a small operation. There's no Black Barrett/Kimber or Keltec! What's interesting to me is that most of us honestly don't see what AN ENORMOUS L THAT IS FOR ALL OF US.

The white man wasn't the common enemy then, the ruling tribes were. Most of the tribal issues predate white arrival on the continent.

No. Just. No. I keep seeing this meme and its still as disingenuous as it was when I first years it.
Yes, we had our differences but with the exception of WA most of our tribal wars increased with colonialism. The Whiteman displaced us from the best land leaving the dispossessed to displace weaker tribes.

I'm specifically referring to WA. The White man was not considered a common enemy until way later in the 19th century when he started showing his hand.

Not to romanticize or downplay very real challenges of Late Iron Age life in Africa but we lost much ancient knowledge, the extent of which still surprises me. Here's one example, early Kikuyu vaccination!?

"And alongside this, some surprising revelations in relation to smallpox: “The Kikuyu made use of a primitive yet efficacious method of vaccination (gucanjana). When I first heard of this, I wondered whether it was really an original Kikuyu practice or a custom adopted from the Europeans.

Careful enquiry and the checking and cross-checking of information from very old men and women left no doubt that they were practising the simple form of vaccination described below, long before the first European entered their country… The pustules of a recovering patient were pricked with a thorn and the pus squeezed onto a leaf… the vaccinator … made cuts in the skin of people who wished to be vaccinated and rubbed in a little of the pus. This process infected the people so treated with a very mild attack of smallpox, from which they did not die.”
The Kikuyu chronicles

Anyone care to guess the origin of this info? Older possible ancient outside sources outside Kikuyuland, local research or guesswork?
