This year, about 11% of the boat migrants have died in the ocean. The odds are in the favour of those that deem it a viable escape route. What people have organised tens of thousands if not millions? How did it play out?
So back to my original question: 'Do you know anyone that has died fighting against a corrupt modern government? How has it worked out for their families - and by extension, the country for which they died? How has it worked out for the average citizen?'
I can give you concrete examples of people standing and fighting against their corrupt governments. We can even ignore how the current migrant crisis was exacerbated by that very act you've encouraged - Western nations complicity notwithstanding.

It's really sad that these folk feel running to the white man to save them is their only option...I know the situation on the continent is dire but running from a problem has never fixed or changed anything...Extreme poverty and persecution can break a mans will to live but running from a problem has never been the solution...A revolution is whats needed on the continent and nobodies ever started and won a revolution by running...Taking a bullet for your people is a sacrifice worth taking...That's how revolutions are started, a few brave individuals can inspire many to band together to take back their country...I know its easier said than done but history proves its possible...I'd rather sacrifice myself to save my people than drown in the ocean begging the devil to save me...

In any case, I'll take your unwillingness to give concrete examples as a sign that you're just engaging in mindless rhetoric.
The way to remove a corrupt government in modern times isn't by dying by the bullet - any fool can do that. Given the powers that protect corrupt government, the ensuing chaos, if one even gets that far, will ensure nothing better than most citizens needing to escape through emigration. I'd argue that taking a chance at life allows for a better chance at influencing change.

Actually, most ran to neighbouring countries, with the furthest to which many escaped at the time being Libya. I suspect most don't care what race is at the helm, just that the chance of getting to country considered stable might give them and their families a chance of building something firm.

What isn't true? The implication that escaping a dire situation is always the wrong move. What's more, indicating that moving away from a problem is always worse than bravado is wrong.
Many of the people on those rafts started off escaping from those things: persecution, war, etc. Their bid to reach Europe is often an extension of that escape. In my opinion, an attempt to bring the escape to a conclusion that gives them the best chance at rebuilding their lives, and often, that of their families.
