People from all over

There are women who will not even take you serious if you do not have certain schooling etc

Nothing like being asked "where you went to school, where you work, what your parents do, what you plan to do, what groups you in, what legacy will you leave"

I loved Ma$e’s reaction, I can tell he wasn’t rockin. Especially with Harlem’s history with people like Brother Malcolm who was an unapologetic Pan Africanist whom used the term “Afro-American” to delineate the global nature of Black folks and break them away from oppressive arena of being exclusively “American” you’d think nikkaz would have a bit more awareness. But then again, I don’t look to Killa Cam for commentary like this.

I fukks with the show but I always hate arguments like this cuz I’ve seen the negative dynamics play out both ways. Africans will act standoffish or overly insular and Black folks get mad as they should when it’s the wrong energy. Likewise, Black folks will shyt on Africans (sometimes jokingly and sometimes seriously) and it’ll give that African a bad impression of Black folks like they don’t like them or reject them because they are African.

It’s way too nuanced to just be relegated to “Africans don’t fukk with us” because as some posters have said, Black Americans are probably just above Jamaicans as the most influential group of Black people on the continent and by and large they are more excited to see Black people from the Americas coming to the motherland than they’re excited about white folks.

As always, it’s about learning about one another. Africans aren’t educated on the Black struggle in school and all that it means because white folks import those schools and aren’t obligated to teach them about other Black people and Black folks aren’t educated on Africa beyond some old kingdoms and the middle passage because white folks run the school systems and influence the curriculum. We have white folks telling us about each other so of course there’s confusion and suspicion amongst us. It’s by design!

Soon as we actually get together and talk it almost always smoothens out and turns into a whole lot of understanding. Because at the end of the day we’re all Black in a WHITE world.

It’s not even that ppl are just generally clicky and clannish. I’m used to it because they do it crazy up here in Boston and it’s usually by who do you know? Who are you related to? Boston is small that everyone knows everyone to seemingly decent degree but to an outsider it will be nerve racking. We didn’t get the reputation for no reason and honestly it’s deserved. I don’t take it personal I get it ppl wanna keep shyt in house and tight so it’s not easily rocked but that has its cons.

The main thing I want to show here is that no African is looking down on an engineer, ivy league grad, doctor, lawyer, or someone in a good job.

Camron who is a rapper, dealer, and lover of all things hood and the projects.
Would not be someone any person or parent would want to hang with or be around.

That is simply my point.
Folks who are progressive, accomplished, or looking to get there, usually clique up together.
Whether school, jobs, proximity.

A guy who hangs on the block, hustling, smoking weed, and waiting to get locked up, is not the person that should complain about anyone not fukkin with them.

Don't do diaspora war shyt but as a child growing up in Memphis to keep it a stack my experience with African people have been more negative than good and from experience it didn't matter how kind or respectful you tried to be with the most disrespect stemming from the adults at the time... Back in the days African Americans weren't fukking with:
Jamaicans (vice versa) until things changed
Haitians (vice versa) until things changed
Africans (vice versa) until things changed

In 2024, things are way different whether it's in the hood, on a college campus, black professional groups.
