NYC is a lot more integrated now but even today Africans have their own culture that revolves around Islam. On a street level even in Harlem and the BX they have their own gangs like ATM, TMZ, 49.

Africans today will tell you they weren’t cool in NYC until recent times. Now they produce rappers, fashion designers, athletes and shyt and they mingle more with other groups. They had to endure being called African booty scratchers, being made fun of for their odors, being Muslim, etc.

But that’s how it is in NY ethnic tensions smoothen out the more time different peoples spend living in community.

The right to free speech and culture of spewing whatever to whomever is not enshrined and protected in general African constitutions. Nor is it present in African culture.

"Africa" being utilized as an actual insult or punchline is what these kids had to endure..and no new arrival from abroad is starting shyt, so the mere presence of an African kid in your midst is enough to trigger rampant insults and put downs without them saying anything to anyone.
