Not that I ever had any ambition to be a Supervisor or PM. You know how IT can be, sometimes the Supervisor / PM be the lowest paid and most stressed, especially in Govt Contracting. My title doesn't say Manager, but I'm responsible for everything IT at the site. Servers, backups, patching, restores, accounts, printers, ordering and installing everything IT and the IT budget. We do have a network that handles switches and IPs. The job description didn't really say I would be responsible for so much, but the pay range went from great pay to excellent pay for Louisiana. I chose the middle of the range, but I probably lowballed myself but I'm more than happy with it. This is actually a Hybrid IT/OT position. Are you guys familiar with Operational Technology??

Anyhow, feels good being on the other side. Hearing about the budget, firing procedures. Great thing, I don't really have to answer to anyone hear, my boss sits in Seattle, I don't do a time card, I set my own schedule. I can work from home a lot, I can schedule certain tasks on the weekend or after hours. I have a company card. I have to travel at times and they reimburse me really well. This is actually a dream job, especially here in Louisiana. Before this, I was traveling 150 miles a day and getting half of what I make now. Now I'm making DC money down here. Never dreamed of having a good IT job here in Louisiana. I was getting burnt out with IT and I've been running back and forth to DC for 20 years. Burnt out for real. I was considering going back and this job popped up. Thank God. I'm in a great position financially, damn near saving 5/6k a month. Time to make smart moves and buy land/property.
It's a dream job until them sev 1's keep piling up and then your entire job boils down to firing people who report up to you until you leave or eventually get fired yourself. :pachaha:

You probably need to watch game of thrones to get some training on how the game goes:pachaha:

Being responsible for ALL of IT is crazy because in even a small company something is always broke somewhere

I feel you but it's different here. This site didn't hire me. Corporate HQ hired me. I don't answer to anyone at the site. I sit at the site and do most of the IT task here, but I'm corporate. My boss is in Seattle. My boss can tell me to go to another site or go to Seattle for months and no one can say anything. I have to tell the site what I'm doing. It's almost like i'm the FBI agent helping a local Police Dept, but HQ owns the site too. They can tell my boss, I'm tell my boss i'm not doing a good job or whatever. But the last guy was horrible and this position has been opened since Febraury.

You're right, something is always broke and we 're always upgrading hardware and software.

Even if things go bad, I don't trip. I've been in IT 20 years and have never felt or got to comfortable. I keep a disaster / recovery plan.

Don't fuk where you eat

I've never listened to that rule in the military and govt contractor. I was fingering banging a fine coworker at Defense Intelligence Agency HQ a few years ago. I was wild
:shaq:

This is my first private sector job and that might be good advice. And there arent really any fine or young women here.

Even worse if you have this level of accountability without the title :dead:
I was a tech lead for a major wall street bank and i dipped for another job at the same time the other lead went on maternity leave
My manager went straight into panic mode since he had to manage Sev1s himself (reason why i quit, shyt was Amazon levels of oncall)
Dude didn't even last a month after I left before he quit himself. I know because he called me for a reference :mjlol:

Being a manger is GREAT when you have a competent team under you which do great work that you can take credit for. If shyt hits the fan or you are understaffed it's instead probably one of the worst jobs to have in tech

This shyt always be :mjlol:

People I work with RIGHT NOW using me as a reference and then I get called about them:mjlol:

Cisco calling me talking about a dude using me as a reference where the same network lead spent and hour and a half talking about our network infrastructure upgrade plans for 2026.:mjlol:

The game is so wicked :mjlol:
