The only thing that annoyed me with this were white Jewish people online crying about how they are actually a part of a race and that it was wrong to say Nazism wasn't about racism...Nazism of the 1930s was not about racism. Jewish people were European Jews from Poland, Germany, Russia, the Netherlands -- all over Europe. In the United States IF they were able to get out of Germany many of them became successful and were able to assimilate into our very racist society because they were WHITE.
Yes, you had the "No Jews Allowed" signs at country clubs - but it is not the same level of discrimination faced by groups classified as races by the dominant White society. They weren't banned from buying property like some Chinese were back in the day, or prevented from living in areas and holding jobs by laws and policies in larger society. In most of the United States and on a grand scale they were treated like White people.
The Nazis invented the idea of the Jews as the Other based on American forms of racism against Black people. The idea that they were a separate being altogether from the so called Aryan race, not even worthy of being humans was on another level and is not the same thing as racism. In fact, there are many Jews who would argue against the idea of being classified as a race. Social media has people all kinds of fukked up and stupid because it simplifies so many complex issues. When was the last time someone asked a Jewish person to fill in their "Race" on a form? At most you can call it an Ethnic group, but a race? People are too simple minded to understand what Whoopi was trying to say in this context, which was correct.
