People don't read lol. This move is saving them money on the cap next year so they can keep everyone together.
EVERY STARTER IS ALREADY
SIGNED THROUGH NEXT SEASON
SO THEY WERE
GOING TO BE TOGETHER REGARDLESS

It’s not necessarily next year it’s the year after that. They will be 54 million dollars over the second apron (under the 196 projected apron). This saves the Celtics quite a bit of money next year in both salary and tax. The contract will end up as a good piece in a future trade if need be.
They'll only be able to do one-for-one trades too, assuming they re-up Derrick White. It's curious to lock themselves into that starting five with no wiggle room for the next four years. It’s not necessarily next year it’s the year after that. I can’t even fathom what that tax bill will be
I don't get why they did this now
A 37-38 year old guard making $40 million is a good trade chip? He's averaging 12.5 a game this season. I know he's taken a lesser role but he's never been a guy who's thrived as a primary type option.![]()
Put them under the 2nd apron for next year, Holidays money won’t hurt for 3 years. Next year it saves them 9 million on cap. White is signed through next year. In 2025 they’ll have Bird rights on White with an expected cap increase
Miami attached a first to take back Terry Rozier's terrible contract, who hasn't been that good with them and their longest win streak since acquiring him (four games) was when he was out. Is that what you're looking forward to?Just have to attach a pick to it with more than 1 year left and you must be out the loop if you think Expiring deals can’t be moved.
Kyle Lowry was an Expiring making $30 million that got moved.
Yes as he was the only real viable trade chip they had at the time to upgrade the roster. All in retrospect but this does beg the question, if you’re Milwaukee do you still trade Jrue knowing he goes to Boston? Happy for Jrue though, great dude and great player.
Guess this means that Derrick White is a goner
That “upgrade” is looking real meh though is the thing, and he went to their biggest competitor in the East. But I hear you.Yes as he was the only real viable trade chip they had at the time to upgrade the roster.
That would’ve been the case regardless of whether he signed an extension or not
True, but for how good Jrue has been in the regular season, he falls off a cliff performance wise in the playoffs so I can see why they thought Dame would be an upgrade in that aspect. That “upgrade” is looking real meh though is the thing, and he went to their biggest competitor in the East. But I hear you.
