It's annoying and it pissed me off at the time, but admittedly it doesn't make sense to turn him face straight away. I actually thought the promo was decent (he wasn't lying, which made it good).
Most of the people just want someone to cheer for against Reigns. It all comes down to not liking Reigns and the fact that he's the new big face. I don't have a problem with Reigns, but it would be better if he was the one who was heel. It makes sense - people want to hate him, they just need to have him beat the sh*t out of all the "smark favorites", and have good matches and stories with them. It would be far easier for people to eventually appreciate him this way.

Are you sure they where happy he was back or that he gave Reigns the pedigree. I find difficult to believe if AJ won and got the pedigree after that Rollins would've been cheered and they where just happy he was back.
Well of course, he wouldn't have gotten cheered as much if he attacked a clear cut babyface,but in general there was a lot of anticipation for Rollins to come back and people wanting to see him. He was gonna get cheered even if he just came back to cut a promo like H did in 2002

Rollins was always the fan favorite and most complete out of all 3 Shield members. Which is why we was pushed first. He's great on the mic and extremely talented in the ring. People only booed him as champ cause he was part of The Authority. His personality and assholish demeanor is likeable. Putting him against Reigns will guarantee he gets cheered no matter how much he tries to belittle the crowd. Wrestling fans know true talent now and they stick by it now more than ever. This is a great way to organically turn him face.
